Lidocaine starts functioning within minutes and lasts for half an hour to three hours when administered for local anesthetic or nerve blocks. To numb the region, Lidocaine solutions can be administered directly to the skin or mucous membranes.
Epinephrine
When epinephrine is coupled with a local anesthetic, such as lidocaine, and used for local anesthesia, it extends its numbing and motor block effects by up to an hour. When epinephrine is mixed with a local anesthetic, it can help alleviate inflammation and swelling.
